Chapter #8 Picnic July 18, 2010 Mr. Clifford Holloway Jr. hosted our yearly Club picnic this year for the third time! Thanks Cliff! With active members Jim & Carole Huber, and Cliff Holloway III living in the township, he was not short of help for the event! Approximately 50 members, family, and friends came for an afternoon of fun and fellowship! The bountiful feast included hamburgers, hotdogs, and more side dishes and desserts than can be listed, it wasn’t possible to try everything offered! No one could have left hungry! 5 Trucks, 16 Tractors, and 1 Dozer were on display, Roger Dietrich brought a 385 with turf tires, this model is believed to be the last International Harvester tractor wholly designed and built before the merger with Case. A four wheel drive Loadstar trailer hauler and a KB-5 stakebody were a few of the trucks shown. Sometime in the past, Cliff Jr. had built a large semi -automated ice cream freezer using an extra shaft and a series of belts and pulleys with an idler pulley clutch attached to a 1923 IHC Model M 3hp stationary engine. It was put to good use by Cliff III, only having to hand crank to start the engine, but the work of keeping the engine running steady and ice cream cool was still a lot of work. The ice cream was certainly worth the time and effort! Thanks Cliff! Don Morgan took group pictures with several cameras before setting his camera on a tripod with its timer set then having to sprint the distance to be in the picture! It’s always nice when everyone is included in a picture! A fun event for the afternoon was the hayride! Cliff III pulled the first wagon with a ’57 W450 diesel WF, followed by Cliff Jr. pulling the second wagon with a ’57 W450 diesel NF, Lewis & Susan Taylor followed on their 1456. While Don Morgan was taking photos from the second wagon, Bruce Powell was filming the procession from the front wagon! As we proceeded along the edge of the corn field on the ridge top, we had a beautiful view thru the woods on the right of the Conowingo Creek that flows in the valley below, which flows all the way to the Susquehanna River! Farther along, we had a view for miles of the fruitful Lancaster county farmland. After a stop to look at the show equipment it was back to the starting point. A pleasant afternoon was had by all so we wish to again thank Mr. Clifford Holloway Jr. and his family for hosting this event! Respectfully Submitted, Steven W. Lewis |
